SMOOTH HAIR. CLEAN AIR.

Because getting smooth hair shouldn't put your health at risk.

Formaldehyde is a simple chemical compound of hydrogen, oxygen and carbon. All life forms produce it as part of the normal metabolic process. That doesn’t sound so scary, right?

Long-term exposure to formaldehyde increases the risk of cancer and death.

If that doesn't worry you, it gets worse:

Hair salons are among the top workplaces with higher levels of exposure to formaldehyde.

Cezanne is formaldehyde-free because your health is important to us, like the health of your client is important to you.

Who else uses formaldehyde, you might wonder? Embalmers and anatomists use formaldehyde for its preservative properties. And people use it to smooth hair!

Formaldehyde is present indoors and outdoors in low levels. Urban areas typically have higher levels of formaldehyde. Formaldehyde is also used in building materials, as an industrial disinfectant, and as a preservative. Many common household products contain formaldehyde, such as mattresses, pillows, and air fresheners.

Okay, you can’t completely avoid formaldehyde, but you should limit your exposure to decrease health risks. As a professional or a consumer, what can you do?
Always check ingredient listings.

Formaldehyde could be listed on a product label under other names such as: Formalin, Formic aldehyde, Methanediol, Methanal, Methyl aldehyde, Methylene glycol, or Methylene oxide.

Formaldehyde can also be hidden within other ingredients.

Some chemicals release formaldehyde (typically when heated): Benzylhemiformal, 2-bromo-2-nitropropane-1, 3-diol, 5-bromo-5-nitro-1,3-dioxane, Diazolidinyl urea, 1,3-dimethylol-5, 5-dimethylhydantoin (or DMDM hydantoin), Imidazolidinyl urea, Sodium hydroxymethylglycinate, or Quaternium-15.

If the label doesn’t list formaldehyde or one of its pseudonyms, can you assume it’s safe?

There are some products in violation of the law, and simply don’t list formaldehyde on their labels.

Cezanne shares all our ingredient lists and test results, we have nothing to hide! We always have been and always will be formaldehyde-free. Cezanne is safe for stylists & clients.

We promise.
